The term 'spa' is often branded around in the travel industry and it's for good reason; it's become more accessible than ever before. Gone are the days when one would have to search high and low to find a specialist center; spas are now available in countless varieties and it means the typical traveler has a wealth of options.
As you have probably gathered by now, we're now going to take a look at some of these types of spas. As you'll soon find out, you don't necessarily need to plan your whole vacation around them; you can pick and choose the best type for your getaway.
The day spa
Let's start with the typical option; the day spa. This is something that has been around for decades and will offer you all of the usual treatments such as massages, body wraps, facial treatments and everything in-between.
The concept is that you book an appointment for the day and receive the amount of treatments that you pay for. Sometimes, it might be a case of turning up for a couple of hours, while on other occasions you might be there from morning until evening.
Relaxing on a resort
Something which has surged in popularity over the last few years is the luxury spa getaway which is based on a resort.
Sure, hotels may have offered gyms for decades, but it's only recently where they have really raised their game and started to offer a service which can compete with the very best. As well as the gym, pool, steam room and other normal facilities, you'll find professionals offering all of the services that were mentioned in the previous section.
If you are looking to book a vacation, and want a little downtime, these are ideal and will allow you to enjoy various periods of spa time as well as your usual vacation activities.
This is a somewhat different experience to others that have been discussed. This time, the spa will be run by a medical professional, with all of the treatments based around improving one's medical condition.
It means that instead of focusing purely on treatments such as facials and massages, people visiting such a spa will be able to take advantage of procedures such as microdermabrasion, Botox, peels and other aesthetic treatments.
Suffice to say, medical spas are only going to appeal to a minority, but for those looking to boost their overall health in a short space of time they can be really useful.
The destination spa
This final type of spa is another which has gained plenty of momentum over the years.
Don't get this confused with the resort spa that was spoken about earlier; the aim of the destination spa is to cater for those of you who are just wanting to get away for pure relaxation purposes. In other words, the spa is your main priority.
You'll generally receive a program, which includes healthy cuisine alongside your spa treatments, to ensure you get the most out of the experience.
Additionally, these resorts are usually open to the whole family - with an array of activities available for children.
